(Feb 10, 2021, or so) I generally like Argentinian Malbecs. And this one was decent. Not too big, but had some stuff going on. I uncorked it and the first sip was like POW, but then after a while it settled down and was more like pow?
Yes, Alamos. You are like pow. Good wine.
Maybe someday I'll go to Argentina, you know? I've always been interested. I want to see the mountains and the pampas, and eat beef from a whole cow on a spit, and be right next to Brazil. And in the south there's cold - like, penguin cold.
I guess those are the reasons. I would go during the World Cup and partake in the joys and sorrows that come from that - but only if Argentina qualified.
But as I re-read both of those sentences I think - maybe I REALLY want to go to Brazil, but I'm settling for Argentina? Brazil's always my go-to favorite World Cup team, and I imagine I'll get to Carnival at some point. Is that me? Am I the guy who wants Brazil but will settle for Argentina? Something to think about.
This bottle was sitting on my desk for a few days, and the last glass really holds up. The taste in my mouth after having a big swig is really, really nice - like, a lot different from the initial flavor. Very floral end notes but tough flowers - like rose or jasmine. Burly flower flavors. Different after having sat open for a few days.
I like it pretty good and it's got a nice flavor profile - not too complicated but on the more complicated side of stuff, and certainly not sweet or jammy. My suggestion is to open it three days before you have it with food, and have like a Chicken Ceasar or Gremolata pasta. Maybe a nice grilled salmon with corn on the cob.
I give it an Argentina out of South America because I don't like myself enough to think I deserve Brazil, but I still like good wines and this is an almost good wine.
